Sebastian Arcelus has signed on to play Bob Gaudio in the Broadway cast of Jersey Boys, beginning January 10, 2008. Daniel Reichard, who originated the role, will play his final performance in the Tony-winning musical on January 9. Arcelus will join Tony winner Christian Hoff Tommy DeVito and J. Robert Spencer Nick Massi, both of whom have reportedly extended their runs in the show, and Michael Longoria, who recently assumed the role of Frankie Valli.
Arcelus is currently playing Fiyero in the Broadway company of Wicked opposite his wife, Stephanie J. Block, with whom he also appeared on the show's first national tour. Other Broadway credits include Rent Roger, and Good Vibrations Jan. Other theater credits include The Full Monty, Caligula, Hamlet: A Rock Opera, Aida, Floyd Collins and the world premiere of William Finn's Songs of Innocence and Experience. Arcelus was recently featured in Barbara Cook's Carnegie Hall concert and subsequent recording, No One is Alone. His voice can also be heard on numerous cartoons, most notably as the voice of Papi on Nickelodeon's Go, Diego, Go!
Jersey Boys opened at the August Wilson Theatre to critical acclaim on November 6, 2005, and continues to set new weekly box office records, remaining among the five top grossing shows in New York. The show is now playing in Chicago, San Francisco and other cities across the U.S. on a national tour. Upcoming productions include London, Las Vegas and Toronto.
